Paradi
Date: 2025
From: Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Dimensions: 16 × 12 inches
Artist: Louis Saurel is a multi-talented Haitian painter who currently resides in the neighborhoods of Bourdon and Musseau, on the outskirts of Pétion-Ville. Now in his forties, Saurel has been immersed in art since childhood, growing up in a family of artists. Alongside his brother, who is also a painter, he discovered his passion for art at the age of twelve. After school at the Lycée, Saurel would visit the workshop of the renowned artist Jean René Jérôme, where he received mentorship and guidance that helped shape his artistic path. For Saurel, painting was never a necessity but a true calling.
Description:
Paradi captures the tranquil poetry of a Haitian evening as the sun melts into gold across the water. Two figures glide in a wooden boat, framed by leaning palms and soft silhouettes that whisper of peace after labor.
Through his masterful blend of amber and crimson tones, Saurel transforms a fleeting sunset into something eternal — a hymn to rest, reflection, and the enduring rhythm of island life.
