Artist: Louis Saurel is a multi-talented Haitian painter who currently resides in the neighborhoods of Bourdon and Musseau, on the outskirts of Pétion-Ville. Now in his forties, Saurel has been immersed in art since childhood, growing up in a family of artists. Alongside his brother, who is also a painter, he discovered his passion for art at the age of twelve. After school at the Lycée, Saurel would visit the workshop of the renowned artist Jean René Jérôme, where he received mentorship and guidance that helped shape his artistic path. For Saurel, painting was never a necessity but a true calling.
Description:
In Brise Matinale , Saurel captures the stillness of dawn on the Haitian coast — a moment when sails drift like prayers across silver water. The muted tones and soft gradients of light evoke the quiet harmony between fishermen, their boats, and the boundless sea. Each vessel appears both anchored and adrift, caught in that fragile space between night and day. Through delicate brushwork and an almost spiritual calm, Saurel paints not only a seascape but a meditation on patience, purpose, and the eternal rhythm of the tides.
