Date: 2025
From: Pétion-Ville, Haiti
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Dimensions: 16 × 12 inches
Artist: Louis Saurel is a multi-talented Haitian painter who currently resides in the neighborhoods of Bourdon and Musseau, on the outskirts of Pétion-Ville. Now in his forties, Saurel has been immersed in art since childhood, growing up in a family of artists. Alongside his brother, who is also a painter, he discovered his passion for art at the age of twelve. After school at the Lycée, Saurel would visit the workshop of the renowned artist Jean René Jérôme, where he received mentorship and guidance that helped shape his artistic path. For Saurel, painting was never a necessity but a true calling.
Description:
Bo Larivye captures the tender rhythm of homecoming — a dirt path that curves gently through the forest, leading toward unseen memories. The reflection of trees upon the river mirrors the calm of twilight, while Saurel’s signature palette of greens, golds, and reds evokes both the heat of the tropics and the warmth of nostalgia.
With patient strokes and vibrant contrasts, Saurel paints not just a place, but a feeling — the quiet knowing that every path, no matter how winding, leads back to where the heart belongs.
