Quartier Latin

$0.00
SOLD OUT

Date: 2024

From: Port-au-Prince

Medium: Oil on Canvas

Dimensions : 16 inches x 20 inches

Artist: Louis Saurel is a multi-talented Haitian painter who currently resides in the neighborhoods of Bourdon and Musseau, on the outskirts of Pétion-Ville. Now in his forties, Saurel has been immersed in art since childhood, growing up in a family of artists. Alongside his brother, who is also a painter, he discovered his passion for art at the age of twelve. After school at the Lycée, Saurel would visit the workshop of the renowned artist Jean René Jérôme, where he received mentorship and guidance that helped shape his artistic path. For Saurel, painting was never a necessity but a true calling.

Description: This captivating cubist painting of a bass player under a deep black background captures the vibrant energy of a jazzy night in Port-au-Prince. The sharp, fragmented shapes reflect the rhythm and improvisation of the city's rich jazz scene, where music flows freely like the angular lines of the instrument. The bold strokes and dynamic composition invite the viewer to feel the pulse of the night, evoking the soul of Haitian jazz.
